DaXun specializes in the manufacture and supply of top-tier titanium pipes with diameters ranging from 12.7mm to 38.1mm (0.47 in to 1.5 in) and wall thicknesses from 0.4mm to 1.65mm (0.016 in to 0.065 in, depending on diameter). These pipes, extending up to 25000mm, are crafted for engineering and chemical industries using electrical Gr1, Gr2, and Gr12 titanium alloys. INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is the most sought-after titanium alloy. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy incorporates aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser, showcasing its exceptional strength. It performs admirably at cryogenic temperatures up to around 800°F (427°C). With applications in annealing, solution treatment, and ageing, ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is indispensable for compressor blades, discs, and rings in jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure containers; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical forgings where a high strength-to-weight ratio is essential.
  • The alloy's initial melting process employs vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM) techniques. Subsequent remelting is conducted in one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure purity and consistency.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • Annealing at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) is performed to achieve high hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength.
  • DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy can undergo various heat treatments for different property enhancements.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, then water quenching.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.
  • In the solution treated and aged condition, optimal properties are achieved in small cross sections that are rapidly quenched. Larger section sizes or quench delays may result in properties below the optimal values.
    Optimal results are achieved when properties are maintained during rapid quenching. Larger sections and quench delays might compromise properties.

HARDNESS

In the annealed condition, typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution and aged condition, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with the end forging temperature at 1,450°F (788°C). For optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% during forging is recommended.
  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is renowned for its formidable strength and durability, even under extreme conditions. At room temperature, forming this alloy can be challenging, even when annealed. However, rigorous forming operations such as bending or stretching can be effectively executed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C), without compromising its exceptional mechanical properties. Additionally, creep forming facilitates hot sizing or forming at temperatures between 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C), ensuring versatility and resilience in demanding applications.

MACHINABILITY

  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy showcases excellent machinability similar to austenitic stainless steels. Employing slow speeds, heavy feeds, and robust
    tooling, coupled with the use of large quantities of non-chlorinated cutting fluids, ensures precision and efficiency in machining operations.

WELDABILITY

  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube boasts superior weldability, whether in the annealed state or in solution and partially aged forms, with aging completed during post-weld heat treatment.
  • It is critical to prevent contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be effectively conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or with the application of an inert gas tail shield to the molten metal and surrounding hot zones. Additionally, spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding are achievable without the necessity for a protective environment, ensuring flexibility and reliability in various welding techniques.

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400), stands as the premier titanium alloy, celebrated for its balanced duplex alpha+beta structure. Aluminum serves as the alpha stabilizer, while vanadium acts as the beta stabilizer. This robust alloy excels in low-temperature environments, maintaining high strength at approximately 800°F (427°C). It's extensively utilized for annealing, solution treating, and aging. Its applications span from compressor blades, disks, and rings for jet engines, to fuselage and space capsule components, pressure vessels, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and critical forgings demanding a high strength-to-weight ratio.
The alloy's initial melting employs advanced techniques like vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM), followed by one or two stages of vacuum arc remelting to ensure purity and uniformity.

Heat Treatment

The alloy achieves peak performance when annealed at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C), delivering exceptional hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue resistance.

1. Annealing: Experience enhanced durability with precise annealing at temperatures ranging from 1,275 to 1,400°F (691 to 760°C), maintained for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
2. Stress Relief Annealing: Achieve optimal stress relief with annealing at 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, ensuring a stable, air or furnace-cooled finish.
3. Solution Heat Treating: Unlock the full potential of your titanium tube by solution heat treating at 1,675 to 1,750°F (913 to 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by a water quench.
4. Aging: Enhance mechanical properties through aging at 975 to 1,025°F (524 to 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, completing the process with air cooling.

Optimum Properties

Optimize performance with small cross-sections and rapid quenching during solution treatment and aging. Note that larger sections or delayed quenching may yield less than optimal properties.

Hardness

Expect outstanding hardness with Rockwell C ratings of 30-34 in the annealed state, and Rockwell C 35-39 when solution treated and aged.

Forgeability/Formability

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5, is expertly forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A minimum 35% reduction is advised for superior results.

Although challenging to form at room temperature, the annealed DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Titanium Tube allows severe forming operations at up to 1,200°F (649°C) without altering mechanical properties. Use creep forming for hot sizing/forming between 1,000 and 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

Machinability

Machining the DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5, is straightforward using techniques for austenitic stainless steels. Employ slow speeds, high feeds, robust tool rigidity, and abundant non-chlorinated cutting fluids.

Weldability

Our DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Titanium Tube excels in weldability, whether annealed or partially aged, with post-weld heat treatment enabling aging.

To prevent contamination, fusion welding must use an inert gas-filled chamber or gas tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can be executed without a protective atmosphere.
