Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the titan of titanium alloys, accounting for over 50% of total titanium usage. Typically used in the annealed state, it operates up to 400°C (750°F). Ti 6Al-4V is welded with matching or ELI filler wire, offering higher strength, stiffness, and thermal properties compared to commercial pure titanium (excluding thermal conductivity). Though thermal conductivity is about 60% lower, it can be heat-treated for optimal strength and performance. Its advantages include superior formability, low density, and exceptional corrosion resistance.

Our Premium Grade 5 Titanium Alloy Tube represents the pinnacle of strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability. This exceptional alloy finds its place in a multitude of critical applications, ranging from military aircraft and aviation industry components to rocket parts, precision-guided systems, armor elements, ship equipment, and military vacuum devices. Its close counterpart, the 6-4ELI variant, is similarly utilized in surgical implants, underscoring its versatility. Operating efficiently in temperatures up to 400°C, this alloy enhances ductility and toughness, especially in cold working conditions, and boasts outstanding specific strength. Typically delivered in an annealed state, it readily undergoes heat treatment to further bolster its strength for diverse uses. As a general-purpose titanium alloy, the Ti 6Al-4V titanium seamless tube offers a range of ideal properties within a temperature spectrum of -210°C to 400°C. It stands as the most commercialized titanium alloy, lauded for its impressive strength, toughness, and excellent welding and processing characteristics.

  • Titanium Alloy-(UNS R56400)

INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is the quintessential titanium alloy, celebrated for its duplex alpha+beta structure. Utilizing aluminum as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer, this high-strength marvel thrives even at cryogenic temperatures, reaching an impressive 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is renowned in various applications such as annealing, solution treatment, and aging. It is indispensable in crafting compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure vessels; *** casings; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and high-strength, lightweight forgings.
  • This premium alloy commences its journey through vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM), followed by a meticulous remelting process involving one or two vacuum arc steps.

SPECIFICATIONS

• ASTM B338 - Standard for heat-treatable Titanium tubes
• AMS 4928 - Specifications for annealed forgings and forging stock
• AMS 4965 - Standards for solution treated and aged forgings

  • Exceptional properties are achieved in the solution treated and aged condition by rapidly quenching smaller cross-sections.
Larger section sizes or delays in quenching may result in properties that are not as optimal.

HARDNESS

Typically, the hardness is Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed state and Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), concluding at an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For superior outcomes, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy presents a significant challenge when it comes to forming at room temperature, even in its annealed state. Consequently, demanding forming operations such as bending or stretching can be executed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is recommended at temperatures from 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy can be effectively machined using methods akin to those employed for austenitic stainless steels, involving low speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid setups.
tooling, accompanied by liberal application of non-chlorinated cutting fluid for optimal results.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube showcases excellent weldability in either the annealed or solution treated and partially aged states, with ageing performed during the post-weld heat treatment.
  • Special care must be taken to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or by applying an inert gas tail shield to the molten metal and adjacent hot zones. Additionally, spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be performed without necessitating a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to contamination with hydrogen through improper pickling, and can also absorb oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes such as forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination may deteriorate ductility, thereby affecting notch sensitivity and forming capabilities.
