INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the most sought-after titanium alloy. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy superbly combines aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser. Renowned for its high strength, this alloy performs seamlessly even at cryogenic temperatures around 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is instrumental in various treatments such as annealing, solution treatment, and ageing. Its applications span across vital aerospace components like compressor blades, discs, rings for jet engines, fuselage and space capsule parts, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and critical, high strength-to-weight ratio forgings.
  • The alloy's initial melting is performed using advanced methods such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting is conducted in one or two additional vacuum arc steps, ensuring superior material integrity.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • 1. Anneal: Conducted at 1,275 -1,400°F; (691 - 760°C), for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: Performed at 1,000 -1,200°F; (538 - 649°C), lasting 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: Conducted at 1,675 -1,750°F; (913 - 954°C), for 1 hour, followed by water quenching
  • 4. Aging Treatment: Executed at 975 -1,025°F; (524 - 552°C), for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling
  • Achieving optimal properties in the solution treated and aged condition requires rapid quenching of small cross sections.
    Larger section sizes or any quench delay may result in properties that fall below the optimum values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed condition ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution and aged condition, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at an initial temperature of 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400) is the most widely used titanium alloy, known for its duplex alpha+beta structure with aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer. This high-strength alloy performs well at low temperatures around 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is suitable for annealing, solution treating, and aging processes. Applications include compressor blades, disks, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure vessels; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical high strength-to-weight ratio forgings.
The alloy is initially melted using advanced techniques such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Remelting is performed in one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure purity and consistency.

4. Aging: Executed at 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, then air cooled to develop peak strength and hardness.

Optimum Properties

Optimal results are achieved with small cross-sections and rapid quenching in the solution-treated and aged condition. Larger sections or delayed quenching may yield suboptimal properties.
